Congrats on the dome completion. Nice tight joints. The oid sayin. "it is the thought that counts".

If I brought home flowers I'd be dead...my reasoning for not buying them is that only fellas who play up then feel guilty about it buy flowers. I can blame my old man for that gene and the one responsible for " why buy that, I could make that "

As the missus went out for lunch yesterday and wasn't that hungry I decided to get the last rib on the bone out of the freezer that I had previously sous-vided and finish it off over some coals in the oven.

Apparently there are a few witches up here on the mountain...

I've got some basalt ( bluestone) slabs 1000 X 500 X 40 that I want to try and polish up and use as the floor for the flue arch ( in front of the SS heat break) and adjacent benches. I've built up the area with VP crete so that the oven floor and bench/entry are all on the same level. I've allowed for @ 10mm under the stone to fix it. The question I have is should I mortar the stone down( with the homebrew mortar ) or have it floating like the oven floor. Most stone adhesives max out at 100C and it may get hotter than that ?
Also should I mortar the base bricks for the flue arch to the stone or have them floating to allow for movement ? I had thought also of using some high temp silicon under both the stone and the first bricks of the arch.

Re: New build Gold Coast Hinterland

Got 75mm of blanket over most of oven ( 50mm @ bottom 1/4 ) and started curing with heat beads 3 days ago. Started adding some sticks, then a few more as you do, then a few more. Stuck a temp probe through blanket about 25mm right on top of the dome and temp was 42C which is not far from ambient today ( it's a stinker ) so thought lets add even more sticks. After quite a few sticks the dome started to clear for the first time, which was pretty exciting .

Hope to get some VPcrete over blanket this week if I get time. Flue should be ready to pick up next week hopefully too. Might try and cook something for dinner tonight in the oven.

Re: New build Gold Coast Hinterland

Got a bit more work on the oven completed, still need to finish rendering the dome and cladding under the oven yet but have had 4 pizza nights so far. Clearing times getting shorter ( one hour on last cook ) and holding temps well.
Polished up the basalt slabs for hearth and arch facade and pretty happy with how they turned out. Flue works well, tiny bit of smoke escapes with strong wind gusts.

Setup the beer engine on Xmas day on the end of the pizza prep bench, think it's found a permanent home ! Made some SS tools, a bit rough but bent them with an old wooden mallet so can't expect much, work well though.

I bought a couple of those actually they were presents for father's day and Xmas.

Had a look at those online, much nicer than mine, I'd be scared to get em dirty.

Oven is holding temps well, getting a good 3 days cook post pizza.
Bake bread most mornings after pizza. Today was 2 sticks from leftover pizza dough and a sourdough loaf.

Looks very nice! Have you placed the base bricks of the flue arch on the basalt tiles or have you cut the basalt tiles to fit in between the flue arch bricks? Greetings.

                              Patjer1,

This is quite an old thread with no posting for several years. I don't think you will get an answer.
