  • Oven tool storage

JW's outdoor kitchen has a really cool ceramic urn that he is using to hold his oven tools -- an excellent idea.

Which brings me to a poll. What is everyone using to store their oven tools? This will be very helpful for me, as I am still working out a strategy. For example, if you don't store the round peel upright, the dogs really enjoy licking it. :-(

    James,

I bought a diamond plate truck box to hold the tools. I will have a rack mounted by the oven during cooking but I will store them in the box when the rain and snow is flying.

Mine are currently in the falling down category, but I voted for the urn, because that's what I'd like to do eventually.

I noticed JW's pizza peel holder, too. Very nice!

You learn something new every day. The Urn is winning the poll. I don't have a great place for an FB wall rack, so maybe I'm now in the market for a cool-looking pot.

It has to be tall enough for the longer tools.

It'd have to be pretty heavy too, so it doesn't topple over.

...still you're shipping ovens all over the place already, so a little pot like that shouldn't pose a problem.

We have an agreement to purchase really high-end terracotta pottery from a producer in Impruneta -- I just haven't decided when to get serious about it, and really kick off selling it in the U.S. The clay is quarried locally, and the pottery is thrown by hand, and fired in an old fashioned, wood-fired kiln. It's not inexpensive. :-) Still, it's amazing. It lasts a lifetime (or two) and it looks really nice. The last time we were there, they had a large number of huge vases and pots all packed and ready for shipment all over the world -- luxury hotels in Dubai, addresses in Russia, Saudi, eastern Europe, Asia, etc. It's pretty cool.

I bought a FB rack, but have never put it up, so I prop them against the wall of the oven. But I am now going to be on the lookout for a ceramic urn!

I'm using that piece of flue tile that cracked to hold mine on end....

It's pretty heavy and plenty tall but really ugly.....

In defense of the "piece of flue tile" method: it's open at the bottom so you don't get standing water when it rains.

Aw heck, just slap a little of that extra mortar on the bottom and it won't go anywhere.
