Re: Required density of fiberboard insulation

Ive had my oven over 800c.... you could smell it getting hot and melting the fibreglass rope that I used to have around the front entry, surprisingly it didnt melt the silastic that was holding it on, just crisped it.

My plan is to copy others who place a light in the entryway away from the oven exhaust and point it in through the door. Easy to clean and replace the bulb.

I haven't seen that on anyone's build. I'll have to do a search.

Can you post a link? This is a great idea! I haven't have even thought about this. I wonder if a permanent mounted light fashioned from flexible conduit or something similar would work. Something that could be moved out of the way when not in needed, maybe.

Yes, this is the idea - but darn if I can remember whose thread it's in. It was at least 18 months ago (if I remember) when I saw it. I'll try to search some for it and hopefully come up with something.

Re: Required density of fiberboard insulation

I really love the idea of lights as well but I don't know if I am smart enough to put anything in without killing myself. Here are two different ideas for lights that I have seen and I like them both. The first one is from Christo and the second one is from bigred. I hope this helps.

To be more specific on Christo's light, see post #64 to see his pics of how he did his lights.

Thanks for the tip Al! I am obviously still trying to learn to use this site to its full potential.

i think you might have been reading the F scale rather than C. If your oven was at 800C the bricks would be glowing orange.

That's way more than you need.

Give it up Dave, the infra-red thermometer is set to C.
Who said the bricks werent glowing?

Wow, then that's hot! Way too hot to cook anything.
How long did it take to get that hot?

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but i dont think this question was answered. What would be the minimum density required for the insulation boards. Would 15 LB density be enough to support the ovens? Thanks.
