The problem is that the oven won't stop looking at me, it is right outside the french doors. I feel like a neglectful parent

Not to harp on with stupid questions, but what did you guys think I could use to stick down my front row of floor tiles?

It's Friday today, so if you are firing up your ovens for pizza tonight, have a slice for me!

I see what you mean. Those firebrick tiles are sitting on a layer of pavers ... No room for a mortar bed is there.
You might have to lift the tile and use the angle grinder to cut a space in the paver layer for a mortar bed. Recon it would only need to 2 to 3 ins wide though.
You might also be able to trap those firebrick tiles in with some tile on the front face of the slab. This would be dependent on what you want finish the edge of your slab with I suppose.
    I hope something here helps

Thanks brickie ... That would work. I'd forgotten about silastic
            Gudday Bevan
No it's not a crazy idea. Brickie has flue damper parts held together with silastic.
He suggested it to me and I've silastic hebel to wood for a insulated door.
So the stuff handles the heat and will be thin enough to do the job ..... Perfect solution, simple and easy.

                  Hey Dave,

I have been a bit naughty, but the pizza was delicious!

I am nearly up to full temp. I have burnt nearly a cube of wood so far, very low temps initially. I am home 24/7 so was able to nurse the fire and keep it where it needed to be.

I am still taking it easy, and not pushing much harder than the previous fire. The dome has been progressively clearing more and more. No cracks so far, fingers crossed!

I also followed the Shinagawa curing schedule posted on here http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/atta...procedures.jpg . Meaning that I made sure I exceeded none of the figures recommended.

Also made some nice pitas last night too!

                  Cheers,

                  Bevan

Yes I know ....WA it ain't. But for Bevan to stay this quite for this long without being up to somfing....I had to find out out. You have to start the somewhere.

OK you've been naughty, but have you anything to add to what you've said . Any thing like how is the pumise insulation working , getting any water flowing out of the structure. It would be pretty wet still but you obviously pleased so far.
I'm sure it was bricky that said that "you just know" when it's properly dry.

                          Hey Dave,

Yep, on the later curing fires (about the time the dome started clearing) Water started seeping out the side of the dome at slab level. I will attach a photo. The seeping was much more the next fire, with around a pint of water dripping off the slab on each side. On yesterday's fire no more water came out.

During the first 5 curing fires the insulation was warm to the touch and the underside of the slab was quite warm too. Last night I could not feel any heat through the bottom of the slab. This seems to say the pumice is sufficient (so far). Also the vermiculite is only slightly warmer than ambient.

You can see from this photo that the dome is clearing well. This fire was 2 fires ago. Last night's fire the dome cleared completely.

You can also see from the first pizza photo, that the dome isin't as hot as It needs to be yet. I am sure it will improve as time goes on. We are also trying to decide whether we prefer a pizza with a rolling pin edge or a hand stretched edge. Hence the flat edge on the pizza photo.

The two 6" chimney flues are drawing like a champion and I have no soot staining on the front of the oven (yet) with 60+ hours of operation. I have smoked out the neighbourhood a couple of times so far though Hopefully the smoke does ease once the oven is fully cured.

That is all I can think of right now, we have rain forecast for the weekend so progress will be on hold.

                          Thanks,

                          Bevan

I am not sure if this will work, but I have a video of one of the early curing fires showing the smoke drawing. It was bad light, and the wind messed it up a bit at the end of the vid.

                            Hope it works!

                                Hi Dave,

You can hear the chocolate labrador slurping water out of his bowl Noisy bastard!

I climbed inside the oven yesterday and had a closer inspection for cracks. None that I could find. I will continue to take it slow and not press my luck. Also quite low on firewood, so that is limiting too.
