    Re: Finally started

The slabs came from Claypave at Dinmore (out near Ipswitch).

Today's progress was getting the floor cut and laid. I cut the slabs using an angle grinder. It makes a lot of dust. I used a dust mask and goggles but there was still dust everywhere.

Thanks. I have been using an iPhone or iPad. I had been meaning to try to work out the pattern, but had not go there yet. Maybe because I'm a mollydooker is the problem.

            Re: Finally started

Today's progress. Hopefully it is starting to look like a pizza oven. The plan for tomorrow is to build some forms and start the arch (if my wife does not kill me first because of the brick dust I have created).

Apologies, appear to have got the photo the wrong way round again.

Looking good Mark,it's going to be a massive oven by the looks of it.Good idea with the use of insulation bricks into the vent area.
              Keep up the good work,

Does it also appear that way in OZ? I was thinking that you might could turn the camera upside down for us in the northern hemisphere .

Seriously, it looks great when I tilt my head far enough .

                  Re: Finally started

Thanks guys. Did not get as far as I would have liked today as only got support for the arch and cutting of the bricks done. At least I'm ready to go with laying next weekend.

Make sure you wear a mask or the brick dust might kill you. The dust from fired clay is dangerous to the lungs.

What worries me, even after cleaning up there is still some dust around and the kids breathing it in.

A fine mist will drop the airborne dust and the stuff on the ground can be hosed away into the soil.

                          Re: Finally started

This mornings effort was get the top of the barrel laid. It has come up not to bad considering it the amount of Christmas cheer consumed last night.

Off to get the kids from the grandparents, the a couple of more bricks followed by the flue.

Woo hoo! I even got the photo the right way round.

                            Re: Finally started

A big day today. It all seems to have come together well towards the end.

                            When should I start curing?

Guess I should go get some insulating blanket to put over the top.

                                Re: Finally started

Coming along very nicely Mark, well done.
I really like the small joints you managed to achieve, that will definately work in your favour down the line.
As for curing,it looks like you're using the homebrew mix?If so i think you want to give it a week before starting any sort of curing. However ,if you are using refractory cement,it can be as quick as 24 hrs.
                                Keep up the good work.

                                Regards,john
