  • Guess What? ANOTHER Michigan build!

I was blown away at the amount of ovens here in Michigan! Here is mine that my cousin and I completed in a few weeks last month. We had no idea how we were going to go about the build, flew by the seat of our pants. He is a mason by trade, so that was the good part.

We began by digging the footings. The center is for the actuall oven, the right side for the charcoal grill, left side for the fireplace. Also, the form for the hot tub is in the left of the pic:

    Messing around, preliminary block laying:

The block done, and the beginning of the charcoal grill:

First color of brick down. I liked the look of utility brick vs. standard. Also, the base for the refractory poured:

I used a Superior Clay modular 36 inch oven. I couldn't find a FB dealer near me, and shipping one to Michigan would have broke me!

Started fitting the modular pieces. This was a PAIN.

Re: Guess What? ANOTHER Michigan build!

I know the opening height looks too high, but we are putting 6 inch stamped concrete on top of the existing slab, so it will bring the height up proper.

First thin crust outta the oven:

I should have enough wood to fire a few pies.

Thanks for looking, I really learned a lot from this site prior to my build. If anyone has any questions regarding my build, please feel free to ask. And to the SE Mighigan peeps, if you need a list of material suppliers, I will be more than happy to share!

We also heat our house strictly with wood, hence why I decided to double the storage space. lol

Some final touches have been added to the oven, I just need to get the doors built, and finish the stainless grate for the grill.

Did you insulate the oven, I cant tell from the pics, if not that would account for using lots of firewood.
