Hi all I am on my 6 chain and gravity is beginning to take over. I am almost thru the transition, I like two bricks. I can only do one chain a day due to the gravity problem. Maybe I?ll get the seventh up tomorrow.

I am on the next to the last chain before the final cornerstone. I was having a real problem with gravity, so I cut some grooves in the side of the brick so the mortar would have a place to grab. Photo below.
Got up early this morning and installed the chimney. Now all I have to do is wait and for about a week or so to start my curing process. I going to take my time and do it slow.
Looks great Huck! I'm so impressed that your wife got into the dome. I'm sure plenty of woman on this forum have done that, it's just great to finally see a pic. I guess she gets to use it too now .
Good idea to go slow on the curing. I would wait a good week like you planned. If you have a small portable heater with a low temp, you could start that in few days for a few hours a day too. It is awfully hot though in most parts of the country so it'll help. Chimney is nice too. It looks like it'll draw air well.
It looks like you'll be cooking by next month. Can't wait to see the fires,

Dino you, have been a great help in my building of this oven. I have read your entire building of your oven. I would like to thank you again for all your help. I think I did pretty well for a 70-year-old man. I am not a couch potato and I like to stay busy. In a few weeks I will be taking a trip to Washington State for about a month. When I retired as a broker in the real estate business I purchased a travel trailer and I intend to use it. I have everything it takes to finish my oven in the next 30 days weather and God willing. Thanks again for all your help.
Huck
in 10 days you went from 3 chains to full dome! Way to go! I am on my 6th chain and it it going sooo slow now - I have to wait 10-15 minutes for each brick to stick, supported by the TOOL otherwise it slides down.
Are you using home brew mortar? I am and the lack of glue properties is becoming a problem now.
I think that might be your problem soaked your bricks to long. What I did was spray lightly where going to be putting the bricks. The brick that I was going to lay I put it in a bucket of water for just a few seconds. I also cut wood strips to help secure the brick until it had time to set up.
awesome, I will be cutting wood strips tonight. I once used a very briefly soaked brick to see how this works - the problem was that there is very little time for any adjustment.
With wet bricks you can keep adjusting the bricks for long time but...
I also wonder if having nearly dry bricks makes the concrete weaker.
No, wet bricks make it weaker. The reason it grabs is because the brick is sucking moisture from the mortar. That is required for a proper bond. Using wet bricks you get little to no bond, as the film of water that forms acts as a bond breaker.
