Looks like a lively time ahead for those in the far north. Lived on the Tablelands for 20 years and have a lot of friends up there who would be a bit nervous about this storm. I left up there just after Larry.

Hope you fare well david s and my very best wishes to all of those in the path of this significant cyclone.

NZ is also an interesting place. Pity that they get their vowels mixed up! Had some great seafood when I was there, the green lipped mussels are prime.

And they make some very nice wine as well.

Russ, I know you're busy drinking Victoria Bitter and stuffing your face with Vegemite, but I thought you might like to see your tomato cousins in SC. Looks like 100% germination for the moment. They are growing fast!

Russell - welcome to Australia. I saw an article in a weekend paper today describing woodfired pizza as being the 'new obsession' in this country. Just picking up on what those of us who have built an oven know.

I hope you enjoy your Australian trip.

    Russell,
You'd be more than welcome. We're having a late wet season ATM (pool overflowing again) but should be fine by the time you get get here. Port Douglas usually get around three times our rainfall. Let me know if you decide to come. I'm a part time teacher so usually have pretty flexible availability.

I don't need a lot, I am scaling way back, since we are moving by the fall. Maybe 5-10?

That's one thing about this locale, I can grow things without a cold frame right into November!

As far as how it works, beats me, have not done any scientific test, it is also hard to tell what is radiant heat transfer and material heat transfer anyway without thermal couples. So up to you. But it looks cool.
I think some stainless in this area can be a good solution as it is durable, non corrosive, looks good and easy to clean. But because it is so conductive it should be as thin as is practical (I'd suggest 0.5 mm) and if a square tube is used, get the thinnest you can and drill the sides and bottom with large holes or partially cut away to reduce the volume of stainless, leave the top face as it is.
