I've been making some progress with the city this week. I am trying to get a variance to the code which is preventing me to continue. Hopefully can have something positive by end of month and then either build before winter or build first thing in spring.
It has been a while since I posted anything on the copper cladding. I got burned out with all the hand forming of the shingles that the few days off turned into a few months off. But I had a neighborhood pizza party this weekend and got re-enegized again. Started the lap joints on the outer arch. Butt kickers, each one unique and requires that a paper template then cut fit, cut fit, cut fit. But getting there.
First attempt at using a cast iron skillet in the WFO, cook a peach cobbler on day two after the pizza party (450 F). I just can't understand why everything that tastes really good is not good for you.............the recipe said something like 500 calories per serving then we topped with vanilla ice cream to boot, but drank light beer, LOL......
I was looking at your flue pic on post #335 (I believe it was page 34 of your thread) and also your pics in your album and I was wondering if you could help me understand something. Did you screw or bolt your flue to the firebrick or are those bolts I see just to connect different parts or your flue together? I am just trying to figure out how I want to have my chimney flue made and attached and it is the first thing I have really been 'stuck' on so far in my build. Did you just use the high temp sealer or is there more to what you did? Sorry for the weird question but I am currently stumped and need some guidance. I am worried about the high winds that we get throughout the year and don't want to make the wrong decision. If I missed something you already posted I apologize.
Those are concrete/brick expansion anchor bolts that were used to fasten down the anchor plate for the chimney pipe. I ran a heavy bead of high temp sealant (2300 F) under the plate to ensure no smoke leaked through. Then the I capped the whole assembly with one more course of brick. My chimney vent is 4 feet high and have had no issues but I am also not in the wide open either.
Well I got the slab poured and am ready to begin construction, did you guys pull permits for this? the contractor who did the slab didn't think it permit worthy.
What a slow poke, but I finished one side of the vent arch and one more to go and the chimney sleeve. It has been a nice fall but suppose to rain this weekend. My build has to be one of the longest.........
The seeds you sent arrived yesterday. They look well-handled and healthy. Thank you for the excellent care in processing (and labeling) them and your generosity in sharing them.
Come Feb/Mar I will share a few of my seedlings with my brother who lives closer to Santa Barbara and has a much cooler, optimum tomato growing climate than me.
Let's see, I have cousins of my UT San Maranzos in Miss, Colorado, So. Carolina, CA, LA. and who knows where those next generations have ended up............
My son and daughter in law have seeds from the Utah strain. They are now set, come springtime, in Ohio .

Tada......I finished the archway copper so I am done with dome and archway. What an undertaking. If I get enough creative juices going before winter or maybe as a winter project I am going to stamp and punch the copper chimney sleeve. But for now, a breather and get the yard winterized.
