Re: Dannos Limey Build (Suffolk UK) -mike
Nice to meet you Mike!
You seem to have bags of enthusiasm for your project! If your building your patio area, you should have the skills to build a fine oven!
Like i said, just drop me a line if your stuck, and i'll try to help you out. There is a lot to think about at the start, for sure!
If i had the budget, i'd have used firebricks i think. But there are documented builds with ordinary bricks, engineering bricks (both class A and B), old solid reds (like mine), Storage Heater Bricks and Clay Pavers. All now with many firings under their belt.
My available materials eventually led me down the path that i took. I expect that i've spent not much more than ?100 so far, including insulation and flue which are yet to be built. Oh yeah, i'd have used Class A engineering bricks if that Barn across the road hadn't been pulled down!
Its a question of cost, and personal confidence in the materials and the eventual performance of the oven. If i were to build for a "paying customer", unless they specified the materials, or fully understood the potential differences, i think it'd have to be the full firebrick option. Unless i'd had prior knowledge of the combination of materials, and their history in a used oven.
I've used both Ebay and Freecycle to my advantage, along with the new ability to scrounge building materials!
