I used firewrap but dont use type that has a polyalumium outer wrap. It is a possible barrier for water vapor.

Good to hear... Yes, I read some where on the forum that polyaluminum wrap was a bad idea.
Since its less expensive and there are some apparent health benefits I think its a good choice for me. Its rated for 1200 degrees C.

If the price is right, you can cut off the foil, it is Superwool underneath which is a safer solution than other products. Still precautions need to be taken like a niosh5 dust mask and long sleeves or disposable paper coveralls.

Thanks... sure is expensive stuff. I may have go go with only one layer and then rockwool over that.

Regarding Rockwool :
Do not use ! I contacted the manufacturer when I read that it is fireproof up to 1400 degrees celcius. However that is one time. The binding agents starts degrading at 200 celcius and above. Repeated heatings will turn it to powder over time.

If you have a factory that cast metal nearby ask them. I got a lot of insulation for free asking very politely and promising some bread from the oven

I got Superwool blankets 2 inches. They did not have ceramic board for under The floor insulation, so I still have to buy that.

Instead of ceramic board you can very well use Ytong blocks. I have them under my oven aswell and they work perfectly.

Yes, their insulation value is not as high as ceramic board would be but they are very easily available and a whole lot cheaper so just just a few centimers more and you are perfectly fine. (I used 10cm blocks for under my floor)

Hmm... not sure how they would compare in actual strenght. I definatly know that compressive strenght (how much weight can you put on it before it will give in to the weight) is more than enough for both. You are building a 500kg oven but it is spread over a wide area. Both will easily hold that weight.

The funny thing with Ytong though is that, like ceramic board, it is very easy to work with. There are special saws for it (A hand saw with bigger teath costing a few euro's) but you will not need it and you can work it with a normal saw with wich you would cut wood. Again, like ceramic board, it will "easily" break (you will need some force, its not like it will break with a little pressure) but you need the compressive strenght. Don't think you are going to throw your oven around once you have build it

Thank you... I'm hoping to plug it up to day if it stops raining.
I don't plan on doing any cleaning inside the dome with vinegar. Thought I'd go for a more rustic look. Plus the fact that I don't fit inside.

Well its plugged.. not the purdiest plug but it does the jobb
I guess I have to find some way to get in there and clean it up. The wife says why bother I'm never gonna look up there anyway
Its was nice to see the floor again after removing the indispensable tool.

There are several types of rockwool.....You need to use the fire barrier type.

Your dome looks awesome.....I was pleasantly surprised at how much a hot fire cleaned my dome. After firing a few times, it looks amazing

Enjoy, you are not far from cooking.

I used three layers of Fiber Blanket, One layer of Perlite about an inch thick and so far, Stucco. I still have more to do to finalize the dome with Tile or color, either way, it is insulated really well and holds heat like crazy.

I will have my insulated door done this weekend and will know how well it does.
With no door after a pizza night and coals just left in the oven with the no door, the next morning it was still 350 degrees.
