I've been working on getting things closed up and today I finished w/the oak siding. Tomorrow I'll do some light sanding, then it all gets a couple coats of stain.

I know. We have mixed feelings about it, too. But, I stained a sample piece of the oak to get an idea what it will look like and like stone, it just brings out the colors so much that we decided on that. Plus, it goes a long way in protecting the wood from the elements.

Paul......I can relate. As much as I want to get back to my stonework, I know getting it all as weatherproof as I can is the best way for me to go. Fall and cooler temps are right around the corner. Plus, in my case, I have nice overhangs and will be a bit protected from rain when I get back to my stone. I hope you get some time to get to yours soon. I am anxious to see it.

Hi Wayne and thanks. Yes, I will definitely seal the stone. I started sanding and staining the wood yesterday and hope to do more today, weather permitting. The stone will all get at least two coats of sealer when I'm done. That's when it really looks nice.

Wayne....yeah, no shortage of pine needles here. It's lots of fun trying to keep them out of the mortarpan, too. Especially on a breezy day.
