So tempting to use the nail gun all round but I know it would be a nightmare to get frame out pre drilled and screwed most joists

Screws come out so easy... boards come out, ready to burn when you first fire up the oven. Looks like good progress.

I used cement board and foam to seal the seams. It didn't leak at all. Poured the hearth slab with no issues.

Hi Darin sounds like it all went well for you I'm hoping for the same results. I ended up buying 18ml floor boards as that was the strongest stuff I could find on a Sunday at b and q no merchants open will be fine thought just expensive and I'm going to use decorators caulk for seams just going to get started now will post pics when in done later

I used 19 mm form ply. It was a bit expensive but it did a great job and needed a lot less support and that I used under the benches is now the shelving. The larger pieces that I used under the oven slab I kept for others to use, they are on their third use now.

I sealed the seams with tape, that worked ok.

I expect that what is available and best value is the right thing to use.

Yes Steve it does make for more of a solid base was worth the money all done now mesh and concrete this week one night
I've also being playing around with white cement and red sand for my face bricks . See how they dry gone for a bagged off brushed joint for these bricks

Very nice brick and mortar selection,
When the box comes up after selecting the small paperclip, upload several pics. Then click back on your post. The box will be hidden. Click the small paperclip again. The box will come back. This time, something like select all , should be one of the options .

........ my hearth slab is going to be 6 inch so with my opening only 30 inch at the smallest point i think im just going to cast over without the lintel i will put plenty of re bar over the span and vibrate all the concrete when poured do you think this will be surfice

Sorry, I missed this question. The answer is yes.
I have one more question for you, before you pour. I really couldn't tell by the pics. Did you put a few temporary 2X4 "vertical supports" out in the middle of the span?

Hi gulf il try that for the pics I'm using my iphone so that might be the problem. Yes plenty of vertical supports under form I've done a " jump test " and it all seems fine . Hopefully the mortar colour will dry ok if think it might dry a pink colour though might gave to add an additive

So after a bad week or so of rain I got a lid on it and a weeks curing later took all forms away for a Friday night fire got a week off work in a couple of weeks so I'm getting the order in for fire bricks and calcium cilicate board next week did see a new product here in England but going to stick with the tried and tested here's how I'm looking so far

A progress update 270 fire bricks, calcium cilicate board to make 4 inch insulation floor, fibre blanket to make for a 4 inch cover all ordered to be delivered this Friday at a cost of ? 764.00 not bad really ha. But a little something that is not described in the plans is damp proofing I very bad error by my self that I didn't see when reading the concrete blocks are the one worst most porous brick you can use and this is the outcome after 30 mins rain the damp has risen about 3 inch when I come to take the forms out from under the floor there was mold on the wood (this was newly purchased a week ago) not a good sign for a log store so easy option was to use a water proof paint all around the base inside and out hope fully solving the problem
