    Good pics Dave,
I was going to put on my blanket today but it is raining (again).

I think I missed your mention of the venturi burner previously. What are you using that for? Preheat the oven? Start your fires?

    Here we go!

I finally took those pics of my dome insulation.

I built a wire cage, covered it with screen, and filled it with verm/perlite.

Over the last several weeks the verm/perlite has slowly settled and I now need to add more to cover the top of the dome with a thicker layer.

Soon I will cover this with metal lathe and plaster for a finished look.

    Here are the pics.
They are night shots... So not the best pics in the world.

    Fullback,

Insulation board, like we use under the ovens - SuperIsol (from FornoBravo), Kaowool hardboard, generic calsil board, etc.

I'm thinking similarly. Hardwood front, cement board back with a piece of insulation board sandwiched between. Maybe some nice handles on it and a wrought iron "L" bracket so the door can be positioned an inch or two back when there is fire in the oven.

I got the idea from the Pompeii plans.

    Yeah.

I'm using leftover bricks to block the door for now.

I am still trying to figure out what I want to do for the door.
Probably I will end up with a metal one.

    Dave,

I'm blown away by your heat retention! That is really amazing. If your 1/2" of Kaowool and loose fill Perlite holds that much heat, I've definitely overkilled the insulation bigtime .

Did you mention you are only using some bricks for a door?

Man that turkey looks good! Those are the kind of posts that keep me going. I was excited to here that the oven stayed so hot into the next day - and for so long. That is what I'm hoping for.
And thanks again for the quote advice. I almost had it figured out but I was deleting the quote bracets also.

Stop by for that PBR any time. There is always a few in stock.

    Ha, I love this thread.

Hair loss? Possibly some epidermis too. I know all about it. I guess you don't notice so much once it's all gone. Saves on barber shop bills though, huh? ....and nothing like smelling like a campfire everynight. S'mores anyone?

Great looking Thanksgiving turkey. Someday I'll have the guts to try that, when it doesn't count, and you don't have 14 hungry people staring at you as you try to find something edible amongst the ashes.

Dave, my grin is hurting from you and Kemo. What a stud to keep up on experiments and news of the fun. You make everyone very proud.

My family raved about these birds.

I cooked them with the retained heat from the previous nights pizza fires.

It took about 3 hours or so.

    One was 12 lbs stuffed.

The other 16 lbs not stuffed.

I wish I would of gotten a better picture....
