I like your logic. Also, sharing such incredible scenic photos is not nice for those of us in winter wonderland.....I need extra layers of clothing here, your area just needs some cool beers, Kabobs, or pizza (when the WFO is done).

The PLAN(???) is to have the top of each row aligned to the centerpoint of the floor. I take a long stick from the centerpoint and lay it on the next course to see how high the back needs to be raised.
I started this with the soldier by cutting them at a diagonal 4" in front and 5" in back and the stick laid on it flush. So with a 42" dome the top of the brick was 21.5" from the center and I'll need to get it to 20" by the end.
On the next two rows I had to raise the back up about 1/2". I ended just over 21" from the center at the end of the third. When I tried the same approach with full bricks for the fourth row, I felt the gap in the back was way to much and I wasn't getting closer to the center.
I decided to taper the bottom of this row roughly 1/2" in front to full thickness in back. Then lifted the back up 1/2". This helped close the gap and resulted in less mortar required.
The next row I'm thinking that I may be able to go with full bricks again. We will see today.

    Les...
We placed the oven in an area that from our patio blocks our neighbor's pool equipment - no way were we going to block the lake. Richland Chambers Reservoir is known for its Bass - sand(white) and hybrids, catfish - both blue and channel, and crappie. So far I've only gone after bass but I'm in the learning process there as well, as building a WFO!
Arch - thanks but I kind of copied you and others.

I copied the same picture twice sorry. Here's a close up of the arch.

I'm only mixing up about 7 pounds of Heat Stop at a time and by the end of the batch it has really dried up. Have anyone else noticed that?

I've loved there work and am copying about everything I'm doing. Not to there sophistication, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants. Hoping it all comes together.
I did most of the 4th row and the dome arch, other than the final keystone. I had cut it to big, didn't factor in enough for mortar.

To me it seems like it is taking forever. I do need the time to think through how I'm going to connect the dome to the entrance. I'm getting to the interesting part right now and will have to move bricks around and figure something out.

I'm almost done with the fourth course and decided to take a picture now since the lake is extremely still. A front is coming Thursday and will bring cold and wind but it is gorgeous out now.

I don't know if I would get any work done on your site. I'd be out water skiing or fishing all the time.
