8inches over dome is more than mine, I have 6inches and 2 to 3 feet pearilite

Our outside temperatures (at night) are similar. Yes, there's a fair bit of thermal mass. My bricks do seem to hold the heat well. It would be better if I created a proper separation between the dome and the outer arch. I think I lose quite a bit of heat in that area.

I still need to create some sort of pergola or roof. I've been thinking about what to do, but have not made a decision yet. I'm leaning to some form of partially planted pergola with clear roof sheeting to let in light but keep out the rain!
