Re: Tom's 42' Pompeii, Penn Valley, Ca.

Hey Dino, it has been quite awhile since I posted my oven. I started a new sales position and have not had much time to do anything but work. That is not a complaint, I am very blessed to have landed this job.
The oven....is FANTASTIC! I am becoming one with my oven. The party for my mom went better than I expected. I cooked 15 pies for the 30 something that were here and everyone loved their pizza. We supplied the dough and they brought their own toppings. My pizza balls turned out about perfect.
We had the neighbors down last night and cooked up 5 more pies. I'm having a lot of fun! But I'm also putting on too much weight!
Just have to put the finish/color coat on and then move onto building a cover for the new kitchen I am suppose to build. Look what I got myself into! LOL

    Cheers,
    Tom

Wow, it's been along time since I have posted on my oven. Finally put the finish stucco on, looks pretty good. Next to do is to paint it to match the house and waterproof.
We have enjoyed cooking in the oven, everything from pizza to hamburgers. Not sure we will ever use the gas BBQ again. Best tasting grilled food ever!

Dusty, thank you for the invite, didn't get it in time, we are on vacation headed for Montana!
Thank you Scott, we are loving the oven. We use it at least two times a week, sometimes four or five! Best project to date.

                  Hi Tom,
So glad to hear all is going well and your having a good time. I really appreciate the "15 pies for 30 people" having just done that last saturday. Your oven looks great. The color, the stucco finish, the location...it all looks just awesome. I bet all your friends and relatives are impressed with the wfo and your skills. I think this heat encourages us to cook outside too and use the oven.

                  Take care, Dino

Re: Tom's 42' Pompeii, Penn Valley, Ca.

We've done some work on the wanna be patio area. The plan is to one day build a cover so we can use year round and not run from the house to the oven when it rains.
We have noticed our propane bill has gone down quite a bit since we built the oven and it is so nice to not use the oven in the house when it is hot outside.
I'm planning on doing the concrete counter (finally) around the oven, then the rest of the outdoor kitchen to follow.
Wish me luck on the counter, I will be pouring in place and staining after.

Three years later and we are making progress on the area around the oven. Added the string lights and what a difference, I can see to cook now. I'm not sure how to rotate the picture, sorry.

Hi Tom, nice to hear from you on your oven. The lights look really nice, like a square or piazza in Italy.

Are those umbrellas always there or was there a special occasion and you had lots of tables?

Looks good, I'm with you on how long and and on-going these projects can be .
                        cheers, dino

Hey Dino good to hear from you. The umbrellas are always there (unless we forget to put them down and the wind carries them off). Don't ask how many times that has happened. It gets hot with very little shade so we need them for now. The plan is to eventually build a cover over the area with an island in front of the oven. Might be another 3 years, but we enjoy what we have. Salmon season opens next week up here and I am in need of the tug and Nena wants fresh Salmon.

                          • I haven't been on here for a few years. We sold our place and had to leave the oven behind. We downsized and moved into town and enjoy being able to walk to town. I also don't miss keeping the property free of weeds and brush that took up most of our springtime. Well I decided last week that I will build a new oven at our home in Grass Valley. We miss having the oven for all it adds to our lives. Not sure when I will start, but I have started doing research and how I might do somethings a little different. It's good to be back and see all the new ovens being built.
