  • Blast Door

I built a blast door to get the initial fire going, its made of thin sheet metal and a few cheap shelf brackets.
The fire roars into life with the blast door. (fire is 2 minutes old)

My oven is a barrel type with a flue inside the oven (blocked off with a flue damper) if you have a Pompeii type the same door could be used but on the outside.

    Dear Brickie

whats the principal behind this? supplying the air down low while reflecting the heat? still letting the smoke to escape...

        Brickie,
If you get the opening sized just right your WFO might pant like mine does.
        YouTube - ‪Panting Wood Fired Oven‬‏

By increasing the size of the opening just a little bit this panting doesn't occur and with the opening at the present size it stops once the chimney gets hot. The panting only lasts for a few minutes.

I doubt mine will pant as my flue is in the top of the oven itself.
It would be cool if it did though.

            Wiley,

Is this a Pompeii with the blast door enclosed at the top/open at the bottom only?

Correct, it forces the air into the fire where its needed and makes it draw better.
