Stupid iPod. Where was I. Oh yes.
About the vent to let moisture out of he dome. I have seen a few people's they are nifty little silver vents. Anyone know what they are called or where to get them.
Colin I am also looking at hebel under the dome. How many lintels did you end up with?
The bits I worry the most about are the chimney and the waterproofing. Especially after reading the thread about the exploding floor.

      Hi Rosemary

Check My Build Out Below, The Photos Show How I Supported The Hearth.

Also I Am Using a Granite Render to finish the oven.

I have been Researching this for some time to find something that resembled Granite. I found this product, it is close enough to what I was looking for. Similar to Pebel Crete but I think more appropriate for ovens [Pebble Crete is manufactured to be submersed].

I have attached some photos that i placed in my build below. There are more [photo's] over at my build. Apparently they have other options and colouring as well.

See above post for those interested in finish alternatives if living in Australia.

          Gudday Rosemary
Vent Mark 11 which is basically a screwed end fitting for a 25 mm pipe. Mark one was open to the air and when it rained the ants headed to higher ground and would have loved to live in my oven. They didnt like the heat when it finally arrived next day after firing the oven.
Ive attached a brass chain to this so it doesnt get lost, and paint will have to wait till it stops raining. Remember I have ceramic and rockwool insulation and this works well. I don't know if it would work the same with say Pearlcrete?

Re: Suggestions for a paint/waterproofer for the dome?

            Hi Dave,
A question regarding your vent. (pizza oven vent that is!!). I have a layer of vermiculite/cement over the insulating blanket, did you sit the fitting on top of this or did you create a hole down to the blanket?

I assume that being at the top of the dome, any moisture will find its way up the inside of the render layer and out the vent as this would be the easiest pathway for any steam/moisture. Is this assumption correct?

            Regards

              Gudday
Yes it has a hole that goes through to the blanket . Hot air/steam rises and it vents any moisture otherwise I recon if it wasn't there any moisture would condense when you oven cooled. I have no way of measuring how well it works other than I have seen little wisps of steam rising from it . If the oven is damp and that happens from time to time you can feel dampness in the hole when taking the cap off recon it's probably just the heat from the sun on the render surface taking the moisture to the top of the dome

              Regards dave

No I don't think so its got a screw cap and silasticed in position. I wouldn't leave the cap off in a storm though....
