The old right of passage used to be standing on the peak of the completed dome...... I hate small spaces.

BS - that's why I didn't use mortar on the inside - I am very claustrophobic..

Les I didn't either. But sometimes it squeezed through. But thought I would get in and look around. Not sure I will though once closed up. Most joints at rear are no more than a few mm.

It was actually ok in there while plug is not in.

Well it might not be in permanently at this point but it's cut and the octoplug, octoforno has made infamous is cut and fits like a glove.

I actually made a mould [ thx Dave ]with plaster of paris to make sure it was spot on. Worked a treat except 5 days to dry in place, was a little hard to get out also. Made it so much easier, just to see 3 dimensionally what it looked like.

                      Hi Dave

I used a 75mm tile offcut. Plug is about 125mm. I guess I could have used a brick. As the plug is oblong due to my impatience on the last course but I think it would be close. The tile was easier

Precision work there, I hope you do not plan to dry your oven for a year (like John has - Octoforno) before firing it up. I can almost guarantee John will not get any cracks, let's hope you have the same luck with that beautiful brick work.

                          Hi chip

Thankyou for the kind words. I'm hoping once i finish the plug [along Russells signature] to get vent landing done and fire it up once i have the shiralite and Blanket on.

Re Cracking i hope i'm lucky that way too but as i think it was Les who said that the bricks will find their own happy place. I just hope thats not a pile on the floor

                                Hi

Well I had good news today and I have 5 days off - Dome closure this weekend yippeeee.
So I started my build effectively 1 April so my calculation 7 months exactly to Dome completion.

I picked up some more fire bricks for the landing, ordered some 75mm Ceramic tape so I can isolate the landing from the dome [hopefully it arrives at work tomorrow]. and for the good news my Keystone is ready to pick up.

So if all goes according to plan I should have some more pics up over the next few days of Dome completion and landing under way.

For the landing I will be following KB lead and one other builds lead. I will be running the landing around the Entry arch rebating the brick around the entry arch by about 30mm similar to KB. This will effectively isolate the landing from the dome completely. The Ceramic tape will fill this gap insulating the Dome. The other difference [to KB] being I am flaring the landing and dropping the front of the landing by around 25-30mm. Hopefully, so smoke goes straight up the flue and not out the front. Eg. law of least resistance. I will be tapering the flue around the vent to also minimise resistance and smooth the path for smoke so as to accommodate the 8" double skinned Selkirk flue and 300 mm plate.
