Thanks for the detailed explanation of your insulation rendering. Like most of us you have used lots of ideas of those who have gone before us. So you have done you research well and certainly recognize a good idea when you see it.
One thing that you have come up with that I have never seen is the way you have cut the insulation into triangular wedges. Now that's different!
It certainly has its advantages. Appearance for a start, its certainly given a smoother appearance. But more importantly the lack of overlaps means its possible to to get full 2 inch cover on a 42 in dome from a single box of insulation. My own has only a 1 in cover down low on the last 4 ins of the dome. Steve70 is the last one to come to mind as well with just not quite enough insulation in a single box.
I also like the hose idea for helping to apply the pearlcrete. I once helped someone put 4 ins of pearlite over a dome. I found it a frustrating task and very hard to get it to stick to start with, and harder to get a uniform appearance.

Started curing oven with no insulation applied with a gas (propane) burner one Wednesday after work from 4pm to 10pm with a small flame, got to about 100C.
Continued each night to weekend and then started all day burns with larger flame whilst doing ceramic blanket install. Placed door in oven raised on blocks to allow fire to breathe got to 250C, continued during week whilst applying perlite render and then a couple of days with fire in the hole. Thursday & Friday temps up to about 350C. Did full fire on Saturday evening to clearing dome after having gas (propane) flat out all day Saturday.
Ended up with a couple of cracks in perlite render around flue galley, next time I would place some aluminum foil over flue galley to prevent perlite render from adhering and act as a natural expansion point.
The render was laid one strip per day, I initially laid a 3" (75mm) strip using plastic garden edging set out from calsil with 2" (50mm) timber blocks and held in place with bricks.
Then next day rendered between this and the 2" (50mm) corrugated conduit, in hind-sight I would have made the first strip slightly smaller about 6" 180mm.
Let set overnight, removed conduit next day and set higher after trimming for diameter reducing. Repeat until at top where I laid strips across top to continue gauge as diameter to small for a circle of conduit.

The render was 5:1 Exfoliators Litefill Premium Perlite and Brightonlite HE cement. I used 3.5 8kg bags of perlite and 4 20kg cement.

Blanket held by wires ran across dome to long screws anchored in calsil board with about 6" of tail on each end of wire. I had a screw in top centre of dome which I wrapped wire around and continued to screw on opposite side when all wires in place I removed screw and tie all wires together with small piece of wire. This allowed wires to be removed from screws as blanket was wrapped around dome and wires passed over blanket. The blanket had wedges cut with large shears to allow for neat fit.

The concrete slab cracked on the day of the clearing fire, but no cracks in oven itself. The underside of the slab got to 75C so the calsil board must have been holding a lot of water.

That looks great. The door is very attractive and the cast section leading to the flue is a smooth look. It should be a great thing to have just in time for the festive season. I am sure that you will enjoy the rest of the journey to WFO heaven.

Thanks Greenman, Looks like completing ovens tends to slow once the cooking begins, I will need to stay focussed.

I ordered the flue and dropbox from A&B Industries in Salisbury, Adelaide yesterday as my patio roof is part of the main house roof.
I will leave oven to air dry and cure until weekend and then start ceramic blanket and perlite render.
Once I receive the flue the firing of oven will start

As they say a work of art, a nice shiraz, Colin laying bricks takes time, you have too savor it ....

I am going on 2.5 years, although the oven has been finished for a while the finish work, well, even the turtle would win this race.

Right there with you, still have details to finish but at this point food takes priority.

I hear you. 4 years and counting for me. Your priorities change once you start cooking.
