You will find it easier if you cut the bricks in half now the angles are getting tighter.

I am hoping to start the outer arch in the next few days, do the bricks need to be fire bricks? Or can I just go for something I like the look of? Any help would be appreciated. And you're right steady, closing the dome is a great feeling

i used fire bricks through the landing and my decorative arch i used whatever make the front look nice . In my case same bricks as the house.
I dont see any reason though that you could not use normal bricks through the landing.

firebricks are not waterresistant at all and will absorb water at a great rate. House bricks are by nature water resistant and are in my opinion better suited for use in the entrance /chimney for this Reason.
