Re: My Wood fired Redux
Also have the walls and roof (mostly) framed out. Looks like I have more time next week, so I'll have the structure dried in for sure. Lots more stonework and some carving to do, but it will be insulated and functioning for the IPA tasting next week.

Re: My Wood fired Redux
Hey thanks Sharkey.
This granite is pretty hard, and has a very high quartz content... but I have worked with certain types of sandstone that were just brutal on chisels and diamond blades. Specifically, one that came out of Montana, which was loaded with iron oxide and was very dense. How is the stone you have?

Re: My Wood fired Redux
That will look fantastic.
Makes my decorative arch that I carved out of sandstone look easy.

Thanks fellas! The outer arch has been something that has a lot of thought into it...I'm psyched to be getting to it finally!

Re: My Wood fired Redux
Put some time into carving the granite for the outer arch. Rain and T-storms shut me down before I had a chance to finish it. I'll keep picking away at it as time allows...tomorrow will be material pickup and the start for the framing.
This is the piece I am working with. It is a remnant off a 10ft granite step project I did in MA a couple years ago. This granite is typical of what is used for curbing and parapet walls on bridges....nice even grain (homogeneous)
The arch matches the vent on the inside, and I made the outer line 3/8" larger..just enough to gently flare.
Removing the waste in large pieces first...

Re: My Wood fired Redux
We are hosting a beer tasting July 6th, so that will kick things off. IPA is the style this time, and two of my pals brew from grain. Im providing the pizza.

Re: My Wood fired Redux
I won't until I get it insulated..that's after the framing. Im not as eager to make pizza as I was when I built the first oven, and I am enjoying the build .
