Re: My Wood fired Redux
Thanks guys.
Gulf,
If I could redo the watertable( I'm stuck now) , I would add some Black Beauty to the mix (black sandblast slag)...it would better replicate the feldspar in the granite. Next time.....

Wow!!,
This is getting good , and so much above my "pay-grade" . But, I do love it .

Re: My Wood fired Redux
Then placed the whole assembly on the watertable to check how everything matched up.
I cut the intrados of the granite arch slightly smaller than the intrados of the vent arch, so it would hide any visible brick edge.
Another thermal break..why not.
I still have to hone these, and bevel the top edge.

More carving
I got another very unexpected day at home today, so I made the pedestal bases for the arch and started working on the hearth too.
Starting out with yet more scrap granite from the project in New England. I cut two ends off a 5.5 ft piece and began by squaring up.
(after I cut off the ends)

Re: My Wood fired Redux
Beautiful workmanship.
I like how the final shape has accounted for the chipped corner of the original granite block.
