Wrong, air has always been a contributing factor in insulation, but it must be used properly.

Ive done the curing fire but the oven just wont get to temp. What is the problem?
Geeze I don't know, maybe I have to add air to my list of things that aren't insulators...

You have to work fast to make a living from laying bricks.

Insulating bricks to form a thermal break between the inner and outer skins of the oven.

More pics of the oven floor and the walls coming to height.
As you can see I went for the tight ever ever so tight joints, I used a propriety mix for tight joints.
I figured its not the fire bricks that fail in ovens but the joints so the tighter the better.

Again some of the floor tiles are recycled from the old oven.
Just as a matter of interest, the floor area of the new oven is twice as big as the old one.

I had this arvo off so I played and done some more to the oven.
Some of the calcium silicate is recycled from the old oven and is 40mm thick.
I added 50mm pavers in between the CS and the fire brick floor tiles for thermal mass.

Moving along nicely, if the rest of your oven looks half as good as your stand it'll be something you can really be proud of.

After the concrete had gone off a while I marked a few reference points into it.
Centre both ways and 350mm (1 1/2 bricks) in from the edges.

I have to aim for a slot already cut into the roofing from the last oven so need to be fairly accurate.

Scratch next Wednesday for the pour, I had this arvo off so got .4 of a cube and done it today.
There are 2 rows of 7mm reo mesh in there too.

Some rough set outs of the oven and opening.
Im thinking of putting insulated half fire bricks at the front for a thermal break.
The cavity will be ceramic blanket and loose vermiculite, and the whole oven covered in loose vermiculite.

Here is the look Im aiming for.
Ive tried to keep with the Fibonacci sequence or Golden Mean where possible, which is 63%.
