Re: Modified 3G Masterly Tail Build

    thanks!
I just used Rado's recipe for the cladding/concrete thermal mass.

I don't want to spend the time making the bench top, I think I will just get a piece of stone for the landing, and use stone tiles for the prep bench...

      Mitchamus,

Loving the dialogue and the build. I am in the planning stages to do a barrel style homebrew mix. Could you please let me know your cladding recipe? Is it the Rado mix or did you create one. After all my research, I have your method to be sound.

PS: Have you thought about making your counter out of cement, sand, superplasticizer, etc. (the GFRC method) You can create the ridges, similar to the image, add some color and it will look like granite or natural stone, giving you creative freedom and saving you some monies.

          Ok some more progress....

To isolate the landing from the oven stand, I laid down some old insulating bricks I had and covered the lot in perlcrete.

I have a granite step-tread to use in the oven opening, which will be the next thing to go in, and then a single row of fire bricks to complete the landing.

from there it's a few decorative bricks, a few archways, and then I can do the chimney.

I also laid a few more of the wall bricks, the side walls are at their finished heights, with just the back & front walls to finish now.

Re: Modified 3G Masterly Tail Build

So - had to battle the rain this weekend... but managed to get the landing finished, and made a start on the chimney/opening before I ran out of sand.

Being in a country town means I can't just nip round the corner for more on a Sunday....

Looking good, but you're going to need long handles on your oven tools.

yep - my big peel reaches right to the back

it's one of Pete's from slow food & hand forged tools.

                    G'day
Great progress like the black stone that's really neat. Its good to see a bit of green in the background of your shots. We have been the same, and just had some proper falls of rain as well

I had planned on making the landing smaller than designed - but I kinda forgot about doing that.

It should be a whole brick shorter really. *shrug*

But it's not a big deal - the only time I'll need to go right into the back is when doing a big bake, or when cleaning out the oven right out.

Other than that - my regular peels are fine for placing & turning pizza.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to put the fire right at the back, but it's easier to just hurl logs back there.

The oven is 34" wide - so plenty of space for a fire on the side.

For your roofing.. what will you be using? I'm thinking of a curved colorbond roof? Do you thing its a bad idea?

The Roof will be a 'weathered' galvanised iron roof, to match the other buildings on the farm.

I'll probably use some old hard wood I have for the frame.
