I knew I should known better not of posted a pic of my measly SM plants knowing full well that their southern cousins would be ten times as big and already fruiting. Those are some might fine looking maters you got. At least I can say they're related................ My hands can only handle so much tin snipping before they cramp up. By the time I am done with the copper cladding I will be able to rip telephone books in half.

They are not measly, it is just the difference in the growing seasons. You can't fight mother nature. When yours are producing great, I will be fighting mid season blights .

What kind of snips are you using? The type that you are using may be the difference between easy cutting and carpal tunnel .

No pics, I got home late. But I did check, and I've got a few baby tomatoes a bunch of blossoms. I think gulf had his in the ground a couple weeks ahead of me...not sure. It started getting hot here this week and we got a nice soak yesterday and today, after weeks of no rain.

How is the copper coming along? The first course looks great, can't wait to see it progress.

Don't know about copper, but aluminum cuts very nicely using a utility knife and your brake. Score along the jaws of the brake, bend up--when you pull down on the metal, it should snap off nicely...always straight cuts--that is if your brake is straight. That is how we always cut aluminum coil when doing trim work. Copper should be the same--but might have to score more than once.

After a bunch of searching, I was able to find San Maranzo seeds locally, got a very late start planting them and they are still quite small. Hope for great things from them--at least that is what everyone else raves about. We'll see!
No pictures yet either, don't have a good enough close-up lens.

Good to see that you started on the copper cladding. I've been busy putting a metal roof on my woodshed/oven structure. Today painting the siding.

I will give the score and brake technique a try. Using 16 oz copper or abt 23 mils.

Got the copper starter strip fasten to the dome. Used trim head SS screws so not to react with the copper. SS just does not have the torque strength, twisted the heads off several screws. Worked on forming the first set of 1/2 and full diamond shingles today. Slow process, like the starter strip. But expecting the others will faster to build as I get the process down.

Here's an update, getting more efficient with cutting, bending, fitting the copper. Almost have the first full shingle course done.
