Speaking of hats......I picked up my aluminum chimney cap today from my metal guy. It still needs a couple coats of brown heat paint, but here are a few photos. I just set it up there for now to see how it looks.

I made a bit of progress working on my entry landing. I had to do a bit more stone work to get up to the level to where the bricks sit on them. For me, it works better that way, to have the stone set first, then the floor brick, since the bricks cantilever over the stone a bit.

I finished the stone work on the front and after a couple of days, I gave it a mild acid wash. It's now drying out for a few days, then I plan to give it a couple coats of sealer. Here's a few photos.

Thanks, Lee. Much appreciated. Yes, we are very happy w/it, as we have been doing lots of cooking in it and enjoying it very much. The weather is about to cool and I probably won't be doing much more stone work on the sides until the spring. But, we will cook w/it all winter, for sure.

I was "offline" for a few months while you were completing your build. I must say your skills and the final results documented here are absolutely spectacular. Albeit, not a surprise...your build showed great promise from the start. Congratulations. I particularly like your exterior arches - perfectly executed. I have built a few myself and I only imagined the precision/symmetry that you achieved.

I would recommend this build as an example to new/would be oven builders - maybe it can be added to Labreu's list (sic)...though the skill shown here might be that much more intimidating for some....maybe I'll have to create a thread of my own to provide some balance/counterpoint.

I was able to get a couple of coats of sealer on the stonework. It was my goal to get to this stage before the cold weather set in and I figured it was time for a little...

I haven't done much building-wise w/the oven lately, but sure have been doing lots of cooking and have been getting used to drawing small crowds at times. But today we had some new visitors that insisted on just hanging out.

I haven't been on for a while, finally got to check up on your build. Wow! That looks great! I love the brick work, the layout is perfect. I don't care for flashy, loud styles, I prefer they way you did it.
