7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii
Re: 7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii
so the week of has arrived so i got to start the the oven floor after putting up a temp. roof because i know my luck it will rain for sure. laid 5 sheets of 50mm calcuim silicate board to form a 100mm layer of floor insulation i used dry grog with a notched trowel to level the brickvery intolerant brick sizes proved to be a pain but looks ok
Re: 7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii
i few pics from yesterday didnt get chance today theseoven builds make the day fly slow progress mainly due to the mortar i used grog is hard to work with as soon as it hits the brick it dries out ive takken taking the brick straight from a bucket of water on to the bed time taking stuff also having trouble with the tapered arch i thought the would all be the same cut but be at the top my it is short which means every cut gets bigger to top of arch ? i got another course plus 6 lone rangers on next course for tomorro

Each tapered arch brick either side of the top dead center brick changes in angles and in length. Use your IT and previously set arch brick to determine the cuts on the new brick.

that arch took some head work it took half a days marking and cutting and checking and checking and checking but i got it in the end. started laying this morning after pre cutting every brick even last key block all ive used so far is my sthil saw ts 450 so hand cutt realy no tables jigs or benches just me n me saw!.And i know i said the grog and fondue was a pain but its been a great product to use, sets in seconds when all bricks are dripping wet so was able to take arch former out after about 5 hours when i was done to clean up the pointing and bricks glad i did it was a little messy looks ok no though
This is after 5 days of dome building i thought i might of had it closed in but what the hell never underestimate a wfo for the first time is what i learned this week but im happy with what ive accomplished so far but im knackered so its beer time!
Re: 7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii
one thing i forgot to mention when cleaning out the mess at the end of the day how easy the tappered arch makes for cleaning but unsightly with been a cut face but can see it been worth it when them fires come

Re: 7 years in the waiting i get to start my 42" pompeii
Slow day but up and over the arch so a little easier from now on had to use gulfs method with the laser level to keep things level the cuts to arch were adamant they were going to drop but the laser kept them in check
