Hi guys I finaly plugged the oven! cut a new 3 piece keystone which worked better for my hole size another course just would of been to small a pieces I'm happy with how this one turned

Thanks a lot guys hodgey1 I have 2 ideas for the enclosure both up hill again i think! rather brick igloo effect or hand cut natural stone just want to get the outer arch sorted first .
I don't have enough calcium silicate board left for the size it's going to be but enough for 1 layer for the inside arch floor inside as I really wanted the arch wall bricks to sit on the hearth as my chimney is going to rather heavy with a 8 inch 3 ft long clay pot and a brick skin half way up I've seen this product on to lay on the concrete hearth to protect from heat Ceramic Fibre Paper 3mm-Vitcas Ceramic Paper I would lay it the full area of arch and lay the arch wall brick straight on top then cast some verm mix on the inside half a cal sil board up then use the bits I have left for final base for firebrick do you this would work?

You can see my to levels of board here also any body out there with any form of arch knowledge I wanted to use the cuts I used on the outer arch as I did in the dome just simple triangles are these cuts right for the weight distribution ? Thanks

Lee....it is my understanding that if you would incorporate a heat break in your floor and possibly your archways, you might be able to design things a bit differently. I'm no expert, but after asking questions and doing some research, that is what I plan to do. Just my 2? worth.

Sorry I meant to mention I am putting in a thermal break with some sort of fire rope around the arch not sure in the floor yet but would the arch wall bricks not still get hot against the conc slab?

Can you post some photos of the area? That may help me or others to give opinions. My question, w/out the benefit of seeing photos, is how is the heat getting to the concrete floor? Personally, I believe that heat breaks in the floor and the archways is the way to go. They act not only as a heat break, but also an expansion and isolation joint. Again.....just my 2?.

hope these help a bit more then had a dry stack with some off cuts you can see the fire brick on the concrtete and the board inside i just didnt know if the heat would soak through some how maybe using a tuscan grill im just guessing

Lee,
Vcrete (5 to 1)will take the weight of what you described for your entry and flu. My outer arches and a subsantial amount of weight are setting on it .



Also, in the pic, notice that the oven's floor brick are cut flush with the outside of the inner arch. That is where I installed a simple heatbreak for the floor brick. It does make a diference in my opinion to complete the separation of the oven and the entry.

I was putting together my reply while you entered your last post. Though, my entry is sitting on vcrete, my facebrick sit straight down on the concrete hearth slab.

In my opinion, as long as you have a heat break in between your oven arch and the first vent arch you will be fine. I would add one in the floor, though, or the heat will just transfer through your floor bricks, which are in contact w/your vent walls. The idea is to isolate your heated oven from any heat sucking mass, such as your concrete pad or your vent floor. Also, when you have a roaring fire going, you're going to get lots of heat transfer, no matter what. The heat breaks really only come into play when you're thinking heat retention, according to what I have researched and the way I understand it.

yes ncman i agree there ive followed many builds here with both floor and arch breaks and left the decision unitil now which is why i didnt cut the last floor bricks maybe the stainless steel flat bar like russell in utah did or even more simple like gulfs he just posted i suppose if this stops it i should deffinatly install one
