Re: Dave's Pics of Progress
way to go Dave! I tried to remove my arch form on Tuesday and it was a super tight fit...while I was trying to remove it I noticed a brick had come loose from the mortar. I ripped the whole arch out and Im starting over. This time, Ill use a shim of sorts to slightly lift the form before mortaring it all in place. So what is the first pizza gonna be? Cheeze only? Pepperoni?

Are you going to start on the finish work soon or take a breather? Either way, at least you can start to enjoy your oven.
Sarah
I think a breather for me.
I've got other projects I've put off around the house.
And Turkey day is coming fast!
Keep going girl!
You are doing great!~

Love the fire pics. That's my goal & I'm getting closer (slowly).

I'll be watching for the next chapter to unfold ...

Congrats Dave! First fire is a BIG moment!
Amazing how much heat that small fire puts out when its contained in the oven isn't it.

Re: Dave's Pics of Progress
Call me crazy...
But I couldn't resist.
I pulled the arch forms....
And it worked just fine!
Two days after completion.
But I did something different this time, so that I wouldn't break it like the last arch.
Instead of building a "tight" form, I built the form so that I could place bricks under each corner.
That way, I could remove each brick and lower the form, and then pull it out easily.
The technique allowed me to keep from putting any stress from friction on the arches while removing the form.
Here's some pics!Last edited by asudavew; 10-31-2007, 08:09 AM.

And don't worry, the green chair is sitting in my alley. The garbage men don't seem to want to take it.... Even though it has a big hole in the seat!

I'm going with a metal vent, and a double-walled stainless chimney. I am keeping the dome shape and will cover the chimney and vent with perlcrete so that it will be insulated and match the rest....at least that's the plan for now!
