A pic of the new arival is not too much to ask. In fact, most of us would jump at the request to show off our pics of the kids . Or, in my case grandkids. I'll break the ice with my youngest.

A spittin' image of his pop pop .

Beginning to put the form together for the vermicrete that is going around the insulating bricks. This should lock them in place and will tie in to the outer layer of the dome.
P.S. Everything went on hold as we had a new arrival in the family.

    Hi Rosemary,

Heabel, does not have high strength. Its not like standard reinforced concrete and needs support. L or T shaped lintels have the strength to support an oven and top. I would not go over ~ 450mm span between supports lintels/blocks.

Some example lintels can be found on Bunnings web site.
Lintels available from Bunnings Warehouse | Bunnings Warehouse

The photos are how I supported my oven with a Heabel top.

    Hi

These photos should help. The silver metal is back to back angle the front metal is 2 angles welded like LL and inserted into the Hebel to hide it at the front. It is in place just to support the cross piece of Hebel.

Ignore the front support in the picture as I did it as above.
    Hope this helps.

Colin I was wondering what you did under your hebel I have been trolling though your photos but couldn't see exactly what you did.

Heabel for the base on top of the steel. It isn't store bought but cut for me by a local fabricator. Hope it work???? It's quite a bit stronger than the stuff in the plans and the hebel has reo, though small, in it as well. Yeah very happy with the base. Two storage areas made more sense to us. Plus added strength under the central part of the oven.

    Gudday
That steel looks too big to be store bought for the project so all talk of the steel aside what's the plans for the top slab? Hebel or poured?
Like the look of the base so far after building a single entry one, the multiple entry style is a big winner in my book

    Hi Rosemary

I agree with Brickie. You might need to weld another piece so it makes a T. This will add strength to the steel. then rebate them into the blocks. That's what I did but with Hebel. Flat steel has little strength.

The flat bars wont hold much, they will just sag.

    Hi Rosemary,

Good luck with the build. It is a great experience, with the end result well worth the effort.

I only used a single wall stainless flue as my oven is outside. I think the double wall is more for when the flue needs to go through a ceiling/roof.
Performance wise I don't think it makes a difference.

    Cheers

    Craig
