Re: 42" Pompeii in S. Louisiana

I've run into an issue with the bricks. Now that I am laying a row across the front, my spacing is a bit off. How should I handle this? My inclination is to trim about a half inch from the end of the two bricks that fall on the center line. On the next row, I will trim the same amount from the brick that straddles the center line. Does this sound like a good idea that won't be too noticeable?

Or just trim an eighth off of each brick in the row. I think that you can work it out to where it want be that noticeable.

I took your advice and trimmed a bit off the middle four bricks. Looks good to me.

Thanks. Kinda regret that I didn't place the arch bricks in soldier alignment. I think the proportions may have worked better. My wife preferred the half brick arch though.

Fourth row of dome bricks are mortared and arch bricks are cut.

I hope so. The neighbors are getting restless.

Give them the trial pizzas and they will forgive all the noise and dust.

The inner arch is completed and I have two rows added above the arch. I'll have to make another trip to New Orleans on Friday for more fire brick. I have 11 out of 200 left.

                              Well, the arch didn't collapse.

It will if you don't add some buttressing.
