Yes it would have. I didn't have one and should have spent the 29.00 at Harbor freight. Live and learn. I got it done.

Like I said in an earlier post, My wet saw and I are very good friends now, haha.

I was able to get most of the forms done for my next pour today. Thanks to he help of a few friends. I can't do much without a few buddies raising a bunch of questions. I spend most of my time explaining why I am doing this or that....

Most people have not spent hours reading and learning from this site. They have no idea that most of the things they ask....was thought about a long long time ago. Then researched here and planned out...

        Funny.
My wife just laughs when she hears me explain something for the 10th time.

Today we formed the hearth and secured the rebar etc.

Things are coming along. Lots of work. Basically 6 weekends in from the beginning. Progress is good. We will pour next weekend.

            Darin,

It looks good! Just make sure the perimeter forms won't move, a lot have used straps to secure it. It amazing how much lateral force the mud has.

I have blocks screwed in to keep it from moving but I will take your advice and add more.

              More pics this coming weekend.
Then it is finally time to start building the dome.

Hey guys, Ok today we did the second pour. It is an exciting day for me, this means that everything else can be done solo by me! Moving forward, I won't have to relay on others to help keep it going.

I have learned a lot in the last tow pours. And we had a lot of fun. Getting a few friends together to do a project is pretty cool. Just cost me a 30 oak lol.

                Chheck it out....

                    Yes,
Both the Slab and the Deck are colored in Mocha (Davis Color). I have stamped concrete all over the yard. I wanted the oven to match in the landscaping design that is pre-existing.

I am excited to start the dome. I am leaving for Hawaii for a week so I will lose some steam on the project - But the hearth needs to cure anyway. So we are all good.

Re: 42" Pompeii in Paso Robles Ca.

                        Hey Everyone,
Ok the Stand is completely done, I will post some pic tonight to show how I capped my pillars.

I have a question. In my case I have 6 floor tiles from Forno Bravo that are 24x24x2
I am planning to start laying down the fiber board 35x35"
Is it best to create my template and cut the floor tiles to fit inside the dome? Meaning that the floor tiles would be exactly 42".....

Then I would build the dome around all of that with everything sitting on the Fiber Board?

I believe this is the desired approach, if you have any input on this, let me know.
Ready to finally start my dome.

Thanks in advance for any input that you have.

Re: 42" Pompeii in Paso Robles Ca.

Here is a picture of the pillar caps that I decided to do. I went with pavers that will ultimately be tied into the build for the opening of my oven and hearth.

It was a little tricky to get done but the sand is semi permanent and will last 10 years or so.

The caps are a little darker than the rest of the pillar which is harder to see.
The result is good. I am happy with it.

Today I completed the floor and will be placing the fiber board next weekend while starting my first course. All looking good.

Cut the floor and got things laid out. I will cut the fiber board next and then we will be rolling.

                            What a project!!

                              Nova,

Nice job on cutting the floor tiles. Just buy looking at the pics, do you have enough CaSi on the sides to support a 1/2 brick (4.5"). If not you may need to adjust the CaSi a little. Be sure wear respirator when you cut this stuff. I used a jig saw with a medium tooth wood blade. Also a tip I learned with floor cut inside the dome. Leave a gap between floor and dome wall, I used a strip of cardboard, as an expansion joint. Be sure to cover the gap with duct tape to keep mortar from falling in during the build and plugging the gap. IMHO.

                                Hey Russ,
Thanks for the tips. By turning the CaSi board horizontally, I have to make a couple of cuts to cover but the outcome is that I have plenty of board to provide the necessary 5" or so of board etc. So I have plenty.I will do the expansion joint as well. Thanks for the advice.

The tiles will need to be adjusted with a Sand mixture to make them flat. Is it a problem to use actual Sand to level the tiles or do I need to use refractory sand? ie: mix from cutting the bricks?
