Wade, looking at your oven building thread, it appears that you did the following:

Mortared the insblock to the hearth
Mortared the floor bricks to insblock (not to each other)
Mortared the solder course to floor bricks and insblock
Left no gap of floor bricks to solder

If this is true, have you had any expansion issues with the dome and arch regarding cracks? Most recent builds have floor bricks and solders with no mortaring, and yet varying crack issues. Also, some are doing a paste of brick dust, sand, water combo for insblock and floor bricks, solder course.
You have used your oven long enough to get good judgement of its success, so please share if you don't mind.

Well, I get my extra insulation Monday and thermocouples Wednesday. Next weekend I expect to get ins., floor and solder bricks, and floor thermocouples in place. Well, I better get the horse back in front of the wagon because I need to do my template for the dome and entry. I should have it done by end of Saturday.

You could do a lady bug one, red with black dots and little antenea sticking up over the doorway. It'd certainly make you popular with the children...

    Robert,
I forget who's quote it is in this forum, but the "measure once, cut twice, go to the store three times" can be frustratingly true at times. Hang in there. Your board will arrive in no time. Work on something else in the mean time.

Ha! Great one Dave! I can just imagine adding a little chassis shape & tires around the base. Hilarious!

I'm stiil down with the big silver star with the blue trim.

Is it a badWOFO or a love bug?

That is SO funny. I know exactly what you mean. When I layed out the floor I was wondering if this thing was going to be big enough. About three or four courses up I was overwhelmed with how HUGE it looked in there. I am relieved to here you guys say the same thing.

Mine is 41" in diameter and proposed to be 19" high.

I appreciate the feedback to confirm 20". I am committed to it now. I am also very pissed because I purchased only half the needed insulation board, and now I will need to order more in the morning. This will likely delay getting my oven on the hearth until mid next week. I am still heading down to pick up next load of bricks, likely the 17th. Meanwhile, I will do what I can......and you can see I am so close.

My oven was originally planned to be 36 inch but I forgot about including mortar joints in the calcs. After a bit of futzing and minimal trimming, I ended up with a 39 inch oven - it seems huge inside! I can fit two pizza in there no problem. Height is just about 19 inches...

I'm not good enough of a pizzolio to handle 3!!!

    True Dat!

If I could fit through the entry way, I could curl up and sleep inside!

I almost wish I would of went with a 36 inch or so... for faster heat up.

    Robert,

It's 20" on the nose , and it's plenty big. I am still surprised at how big this thing is after building it. When I was doing mockups, it didn't seem very big. You'll be please at how much room is in there.

Also remember: Your door will be around 12" high, so you can't put anything in the oven larger than 12" high... thus a higher dome is wasted space.
