Ive got a timber ply roof with asphalt shingles on it, there is no way any heat from the oven will get anywhere near it, like Stonecutter said better to ere on the side of caution if you are not really sure whats going on.

I've got a bit of construction/Remodeling experience (finished a couple houses and Basements) and I was thinking with the way the oven is built and proper insulation, using the steel frame seems kinda like over kill and just a pain and added expense but I thought I would get a second opinion. Thanks!

Party tomorrow, but I feel so rusty I had to fire it up and make a couple. My boy had a friend over and I wanted to keep it simple so it was just cheese for them, and Margheritas for us.

Overall, I'm very happy with how the oven is working. The draw is excellent in spite of facing the prevailing wind....had no choice on that.

The gable on the back of the oven is open on top, I checked the interior temp when we were coming inside for the night....nothing more than ambient.

Granite arch didn't get very hot at all, and I think we're in business!

Check out this essential oven tool. Custom made by a blacksmith in MA for a small local brewery. The owner/brew-master is also a stonemason..this is the name of his business. It's no surprise I wanted one.

Great test firing, very neat suds opener. Been side tracked with my cladding on the dome but did scab some old duct work to practice and get used to metal work and forming.

That's cool. If I remember right duct work is 18 ga, so it will be a bit stiff compared to copper..but much smarter to practice on.

More finishes evolution...this time it was incorporating the few remaining antique brick into the veneer work. So, they were laid as corners, with no real bond pattern, because I am going to key the stonework into them...the idea is to make it sort of like an old repair or something. I just don't have enough to do anything else, and with an extremely limited stone supply, this seemed like a good solution.

I am going to try and let the stonework go. I don't want it to look like the base, less coursing and more random..in and out. I'll run some brick out on the sides, similar to the back of the oven, asymmetrically, again to give the feeling of repair work.

                                StoneCutter,

You are the hardest on your self. I can't even imagine doing a dry stack base like you did. I like the mix use of bricks, stone, and timbers. I am just slow poking along, too hot here to get motivated.
