BTW ... I do use it in the winter at -10F so the temperature spread in the winter is well over 550F degrees. No Problems with thermal shock so far but I take care not to drop the door in the snow when it is hot.
I think I used much or your design in my door. Thanks

So many good ideas are on this site. I mixed up your inspiring door, cobblerdave's, and Geenman's door to name a couple that inspired me. Then melded it with my own experience and knowledge.

I hope the addition helps someone create some interesting design choices.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

Re: Show us your Door Thread

Wanted a durable insulated door that I could hinge down and or roll out for loading bread without having to pick it up and remove it. Note the little rollers at the bottom which allow it to lay forward and or pull forward without dragging on the hearth. Works great, no more picking up a heavy, hot door just to load multiple loaves of bread.

That is a great door and the rollers will be a feature of many doors in the future I expect. Evolution at work!

do the rollers roll or just give a round smooth surface to slide on?
Close up photo from underneath would be great.

Yes, the rollers rotate. I placed them even with the bottom of the door so that when the door pivots forward they make contact with the hearth, the bottom edge of the door lifts free and the door can just be laid flat where it is, or it can be pulled away from the oven door. Don't look to closely at the welding, not my strong suit.

I saw a hinge down door in a video of a commercial oven which I thought was great, but I knew I not only wanted the door to lay down, but also be easily removable for cooking pizza, removing ash etc.

Re: Show us your Door Thread

Very nice door indeed and the rollers make moving it possible.

Looking at the photos, it seems like you have some pretty heavy duty steel plate you used for fabrication, what is it 1/4" for the outside and a little thinner for the inner surface?

Did you sandwich any insulation between the surfaces?

Did you plan for rollers right from the beginning? Or after finding out how heavy the door actually is?

My temp door is on this thread, so I might as well show the permanent one.

Thanks, The steel I used for the door is a little heavy duty, but it was what I found laying around. The plan all along was to have the rollers, so weight was not to big of a concern. The door is insulated with ceramic board and it does a decent job of holding in the heat.

I don't do jealous but I do admire the workmanship and the resulting granite arch. Gives some of us something to aspire to. Very special.

Nice idea with the rollers Rbhumbert, my door weighs in at 15kg (33lbs) so I might try incorporate whilst I carry out some mods.

Here's my door based heavily on Greenmans design.
Insulated with 50mm calsil board and 50mm perlite render.

I have wooden handles to attach to the brass hex stand-offs but when fitted the door is too deep to angle through front arch without handles jamming, so I need to cut down the hex stand-offs to allow door to clear front arch whilst on an angle.

Box spot welded 1.2mm stainless steel, aluminium front plate 4mm, timber panels screwed from back insulated with red fibre washers.
Insulation calsil left over bits & perlite cement.
