Re: Kemo's South Austin Pizza Oven

To you Kemo, Ken, Dave, Sarah, etc...that have done such an impressive level of sharing with details and photos. I ended up getting hit with a 3 day bug, setting me back. As for all of you at this state (Wow). I believe James should take all your photos of the completed ovens and have those be the December (Christmas) special for voting (Best of Month). There will be a group of us likely finishing in early spring.

Congratulations! Doesn't it feel great when you reach this point? Your dome and vent look great and I like the colour contrast!

By Tuesday, you mean next, right??

    Sarah

Same here... Small fire tonight and/or tomorrow night, then probably throw the blankets on after turkey.

It looks awesome! Anyway, it's not the size of the keystone that matters...
Congrats. Your arch looks great, too.

and now we have the results of the landing and vent opening. I ended up getting some NEW firebrick, these seem to have a reddish color to them which I like better than the pale yellow. so, I have a mix of colors it seems, which is fine with me. check the brick and arch...

Kens oven is awesome...looking at my pics, it looks like I could have a nice roundish keystone. Instead, I kept with the 1x1 blocks and even 1x1s split at 45deg to make triangles. anyhoo, the dome is finished! finally. Here are a couple of shots.

ok...here is where im at as of today.

last night I did the 10th course with the 1/4 bricks and got some really big gaps in there. So I decided for the remainder of the courses ill use some 1"x1" finger bricks that I cut from scrap the same depth as the rest of the bricks. The pictures show the first of the 1x1s that I cut. I decided to pull out the measuring stick and "free hand" it from here. So far, I havent had any major brick slides (knock on wood) and I think that tonight I can get the last course of 1x1s in there and start eyeballing a keystone of some sort.

I understand completely, but just the opposite. Like in the summer when a heat wave hits the north and its 88 degrees! It was 88 deg this week

I have to laugh about the cold in Texas though. Think about it this way, in Canada they are laughing at me, even those from the Swiss Alps. As long as we dress right and keep working through the cold we get to smile when it is done. All you Texans deserve 100% respect, actually, every single one of us that has started and is working towards the finish. Hard work no matter what one thinks. I cut my hand good just doing the wall.

And it's supposed to cool off tonight and tomorrow. (At least here.) But I imagine the cold front will be headed your way.....
