Re: Starting new 36" build
Looks fantastic. I would not mention that black was ever in the plans.

Re: Starting new 36" build
Ok, after 3 coats of stain and sealer, I am finished with the BBQ countertops. I am pretty pleased with the way it came out. It's not a solid black color - it's brown to black mix. But I like the way it looks. It's dark enough to contrast with the stone veneer, the brown tones complement the clinker brick I used for my arch, and the sheen is very cool!
I still have to clean and seal the landing. That one I need someone to help me lift off and put on sawhorses - and it is too heavy for my girlfriend to lift.
I may wait to seal it until she gets the mosaic in though.

Re: Starting new 36" build
We have surprisingly good weather here, so I got the stain onto the counters this morning. Looks brown now, I guess it will be black once I wash off all the stuff dried to the surface? I hope so.
The manufacturer doesnt really give too good of instructions for the use of this stuff. We'll see what I get!

Re: Starting new 36" build
I was wondering whether someone would reply. It looked like an advertisement to me, too.
I just had a look at the website and the oven mentioned. It just goes to show, you can cook a pizza in anything if you try.

Thanks. Pizza party tonight - kids, and my dad's 87th birthday. He hasn't seen the oven in person yet - but he's the guy who taught me to be confident enough to try building things like this.
The lights are really great. I may even need to step down the wattage on the bulbs. That's two x 50 watts. I think I would be fine with 35 watt bulbs.

Hey DJ,
Looks very nice and ready for a pizza party. Concrete counters look like they turned out well. Job well done.

Re: Starting new 36" build
Here's a shot after I cleaned up all the stone and acid washed the brick on the lower arch. I can see the difference from the last picture. Haven't done the oven opening yet. I also found the acid wash did wonders to clean off my patio pavers! I also installed the last cabinet door.
Big task now is cleaning all my tools and putting them away. Everything is covered with mortar dust.
Oh yeah... and - let there be light!
